摘要

I want to congratulate the authors on their well-done and timely study, High Prevalence of Vitamin D Insufficiency in a U.K. Urban Morbidly Obese Population: Implications for Testing and Treatment. Their findings of a 90% vitamin D deficiency in a large, multiethnic, obese population awaiting bariatric surgery demonstrates a widespread nutritional deficiency in this population. The study population demographic characteristics correlate quite well with other bariatric surgery populations described; so, these results are most likely applicable to the general bariatric surgery population. There has been some discussion about the effect of bariatric surgery on both vitamin D stores and bone metabolism in general [1].
