摘要

A simple, rapid, highly sensitive and selective spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of chromium in sub ppm level. The proposed method is based on the reaction of chromium (VI) with acidified potassium iodide to liberate iodine. The liberated iodine selectively oxidises leucocrystal violet to crystal violet dye in the presence of sodium hydroxide. The dye which is extractable in isoamyl alcohol shows maximum absorbance at 595 nm. The extractive system obeys Beer's law in the range of 0.25 to 2.0 u.g chromium (VI) per 25ml (0.01-0.08 ppm).
