A selective method has been developed for extraction chromatographic studies of Ga(III) with Aliquat-336 (quaternary ammonium compound) as a stationary phase on a column of silica gel. Quantitative extraction of Ga(III) has been achieved in HCl(0.5M) medium. The effect of different acids with varying concentrations, eluting agents, flow rate on extraction and elution have been investigated. The exchange capacity of the prepared exchanger and extraction kinetics with respect to Ga(III) have been determined. Ga(III) has been separated from binary, ternary and quaternary mixtures of various metal ions. The proposed method is simple, rapid and selective.
