Designed by architect Roger Stephenson, Chetham's School of Music's new extension is a sight to behold - the postmodern, triangular building, emits a sense of fluidity. Built adjacent to the historic Chetham buildings - which the school has retained - the juxtaposition of old and new architecture has been conceived rather sympathetically, and well executed. Light, airy spaces feature heavily - neutral colours, including die tiling, have been specified to create a warm but striking environment. Small windows were installed to prevent noise pollution - both from external traffic, and internally - and as such, the colour scheme was required to create a light environment.
