A method is proposed for the extraction separation and spectrophotometric determination of microgram levels of Sb(III) from hydrobromic acid media with l-(4'-bromophenyl)-4, 4, 6-trimethyl-(1H, 4H)-pyrimidine-2-thiol (4'-bromoPTPT) in chloroform. The yellow coloured complex absorbs maximally at 360 nm and system obeys Beer's law in the concentration range 50-350 μg of Sb(III) per 10 ml of chloroform. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity are 3166 dm~3 mol~(-1) cm~(-1) and 0.038μg cm~2 respectively. The method has been applied for the determination of Sb(III) in various synthetic and real samples. It provides binary separation of Sb(III) from Pb(II), Pd(II), Cu(II), Se(IV), Te(IV) and Bi(III). The method is accurate, simple, rapid and selective and overall process of extraction and determination takes about 15 min.
