Effects of Water Properties on Reelability of Silkworm (BR-Urboshi) Cocoons by using the Water of Nawabganj Area

The behaviour of Bangladesh silk cocoons (BR-Urboshi race) was studied for investigating the effects of water on the reelability and quality of raw silk. The cocoons were dried 85-90 deg C for three hours. Then the cocoons were ready for reeling. The physico-chemical characteristics of water from different sources of Nawabganj regions were studied. From the results it becomes clear that the river water is more suitable for reeling than from tube-well, pond, community water supply and distilled water. The values of pH, total, permanent and temporary hardness, electrical conductivity (mmho~(-1)) and the mineral bicarbonate, sulphate, phosphate, calcium and iron contents of samples were determined.
