Roger Barone remains an enigmatic figure. Although Pansier and Wickersheimer have established his existence, most aspects of his life remain obscure.1'2 The main reason for the limited amount of information and references to him was the result of inconsistent use of names by historians, who often confused him with Roger de Parme (Parma) or de Salerne (Salerno). In the Royal Library among the manuscripts attributed to Roger, Roger de Parme, Roger Bacon, and Roger Barone, 3 Latin manuscript numbers 7035, 7040, and 7056 are now listed as treatise of Roger Barone.
