THIS ARTICLE FIRST DEFINES THE SPORT OF WEIGHTLIFTING SO THE READER HAS A CLEAR IDEA OF THE ACTIVITY. WE INCLUDE A DETAILED LOOK OF THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS THAT CAN BE DERIVED FROM INCLUDING WEIGHTLIFTING MOVEMENTS IN THE TRAINING PROGRAMS OF ATHLETES FROM A VARIETY OF SPORTS. FINALLY, A REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE EVALUATING THE INJURY RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH PERFORMANCE OF THE WEIGHT-LIFTING MOVEMENTS IS PRESENTED. THE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACHES WITH RELEVANT INFORMATION SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION REGARDING INCLUSION OF THE WEIGHTLIFTING MOVEMENTS IN THE TRAINING PROGRAMS OF THEIR ATHLETES.
