Aussie drought and Argentine rain could drive markets. E1 Nifio, a temperature and wind pattern that at times develops in the Pacific Ocean, can have big effects on world crops. Markets will be reacting the rest of this fall and winter, especially toany El Nino effects in the Southern Hemisphere. It could shrink Australia's reasonably good wheat crop with late drought. It could bring rains to Argentina and Brazil to produce a bumper soybean crop in 2010. And corn growing in South Africa this wintermay miss rains because of it. A strong El Nifio can be a market-moving weather system. Last fall it wasn't yet because the weather pattern appeared only weak to moderate, says Don Roose of U.S. Commodities in West Des Moines, Iowa.
