Lime is an expensive input and applying it has become a complicated decision these days. The ability to free up otherwise expensive crop nutrients from the soil is intriguing if you own your land or operate under a long-term lease. Lime can benefit not only corn but also other crops in a rotation. Rusty Hilgenkamp, Arlington, Nebraska, recently wrapped up a 16-year research effort on his farm to monitor the profitability and longevity of applying lime in his corn/soybean rotation.
