It's likely that Twitter on the farm will be even hotter than smart-phones, says Andrew Campbell, Ontario farmer and social media consultant. Although he finds YouTube and Facebook useful platforms for farms as information sources, he says Twitter isessential, second only to his smartphone as a connecting point. It has about a half-billion followers. The power of Twitter is that messages are limited to 140 characters, which makes them too short for advertising. It's easy to scroll through dozens ofnew tweets (messages) in just a couple minutes for quick updates for anything from train wrecks to rain that's falling a few miles west. Often, the messages contain a link to more information.
