摘要

Split applications and banding reduce the potential for nitrogen loss. Escalating nitrogen prices prompted Craig Kassel to change the way he manages nitrogen. For several years, he broadcast liquid nitrogen ahead of planting and worked it in with a tillage tool. "But with the price of nitrogen the way it is now, I'm not comfortable putting it all out there at once," says the Emmetsburg, Iowa, corn grower. He also thought some of the nitrogen was getting tied up in the residue from the previous corn crop.
