Johnny Carberry shouts over the wind off the Caribbean as his golf cart circles newly painted tanks of ethanol. He apologizes for the still-unpaved road around Jamaica Broilers' 60-million-gallon ethanol dehydration plant that began processing last July. Here at Old Harbour Bay west of Kingston, there's not a tourist in sight. A pile of white alumina from Jamaica's bauxite mines sits a short distance away, soon to be loaded onto a ship. At the Jamaica Broilers plant, two yellow pipes, labeled ImportLine and Export Line, await the next tanker. JB Ethanol buys ethanol, runs it through towers of molecular sieves to take out the remaining 5% water, and reships it.
