摘要

The compact and close-knit design community of the San Francisco Bay Area allowed Thomas D. Church to establish long-lasting relationships with several architects; his social skills and design talent made him the landscape architect of choice for residential projects throughout the 1930s and 1940s. Although designers like Garrett Eckbo, Dan Kiley and James Rose had advertised their theories for a new landscape in Pencil Points and Architectural Record from the mid-1930s onward, consensus had established Church as the natural father of modern Californian garden design.
