Competence in Graphite

The recipe for success followed by Graphit Kropfmuhl AG is to cover more and more new applications with products with a high added value. Graphit Kropfmuhl AG (GK) goes back to a Company founded in Hauzenberg/D (Fig. 1) in 1870. In addition to its graphite activities, it is now involved in the silicon metal sector. The activities in the silicon sector were initiated by the acquisition of the Pocking-based Company RW silicium GmbH, the only German producer of high-grade silicon, in 1998. In the last business year, GK and its 913 employees generated sales totalling EUR 73 mill. (+ 7,8% compared to the previous year). Graphite accounted for EUR 29,2 mill. of this total (+ 9,0% compared to the previous year). The impetus for this growth comes from the export market, particularly from Asia. Along with RW silicium GmbH, the companies Edelgraphit GmbH/Bad-Godesberg and Branwell Graphite Ltd. (UK) are 100-% subsidiaries of the GK Group. The GK Group also holds stakes of 99% in MAZIVA Tyn (CZ), 70% in Mutual Sources Ltd. (China), 86 % in Bogala Graphite Ltd. (Sri Lanka), and 51% in Qingdao Kropfmuehl Graphite Co. Ltd. (China).
