Productivity increase using a combination of electro-kinetics in pressure casting was examined. The processes of electrophoresis and electro-osmosis are first explained before discussing the trials that were conducted. A number of advantages are noted, although there are a variety of details to be considered. These are explained in this practice minded article. Under constant casting pressure, the casting time can be reduced by up to 25 %; on the other hand, when the casting time remains constant, lower casting pressure can be used, which means that the primary plant engineering parameters (e.g. the mould) are not subjected to as much load.
