Computer Supported Calculation and Evaluation of the Correct Composition of BOF Converter Slag

The paper presents the software package 'COAT - Control Optimization & Analysis Tool' for calculation of the correct adjustment of the slag formers in the BOF process. In addition the software allows for evaluation of the results from various operating BOF shops. The software is easy to handle. The metallurgical fundamentals and some aspects of the underlying model of the software are presented. The benefits and the saving potential from use of this software are demonstrated.
