Following the severe setbacks caused by the economic crisis, the past year brought the whitewares industry further stabilization of its business. The enterprises represented in the VKI, Germany's Ceramics Industry Association, generated sales totalling EUR 1,1 billion in Germany in 2011, that is up 6% on the previous year. However, only technical ceramics surpassed their pre-crisis level. In the business year 2011, sales of the technical ceramics manufacturers rose by 8,7%. The increase in domestic sales totalled 10,9%, the increase in exports 7,1%. The number of employees increased by 3,0%.
