SAISC backing for SEIFSA accelerated artisan training model

The Southern African Institute of Steel Construction (SAISC) supports the accelerated artisan training model that has been developed by the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa (SEIFSA) in a bid to unblock the skills pipeline. The low apprentice intake in the manufacturing industry has resulted in a severe shortage of technical skills in the South African economy. Between 1982 and 2005, the intake of apprentices declined from almost 13 000 to 3 400 a year. The apprenticeship intake for 2008 is a mere 3 644.
