Consequences for the Fine Ceramics Industry in the Three Emission Trading Periods

European emission trading has been an instrument for climate protection since 2005 and is now in preparation for the third trading period (2013 to 2020). Owing to changes in the criteria for participation, the different sectors in the ceramics industry have been differently affected in the three trading periods. With a focus on fine ceramics, this report describes how the number of participating companies has changed, with details of the verification of participation criteria for the third trading period. With the exception of the ceramic tile industry, no fine ceramics manufacturers will be active trading participants; however, every installation that is part of an emission trading sector will be affected by equivalent alternative measures.
