Determining the Bulk Density of Green and Sintered Ceramic Bodies with Densitec

The objective of the study presented in this paper was to evaluate the suitability of the Densitec measurement system launched in 2005 by the Swiss firm Exelia AC for determining the bulk density of green and sintered ceramic bodies. For this purpose, the bulk density of pressed green and sintered ceramic bodies as well as green ceramic tapes was determined by the boiling method and geometric measurement, and the results compared with the values obtained in the Densitec measurements. The test results showed that the Densitec measurement system represents an alternative to conventional methods for measuring the density of pressed green and sintered ceramic bodies. Especially for green bodies with irregular geometry, the new process opens up possibilities for fast and accurate bulk density measurement. The system, however, is not suitable for measuring the density of green ceramic tapes.
