Since the time when mankind started to produce tiles, ceramists are trying to improve the esthetics of the products. The first target was to cover walls and floors and to give them a certain stability and strength. But from the beginning a second desire was running parallel: the riles should deliver an aesthetic contribution to the human environment. The tile producing industry is the section with the biggest turnover in the ceramics field. During the last fifty vears there were phantastic technological innovations introduced, some of which were taken over by other ceramic branches as well. Especially the decorating area has introduced many surprising novelties. The latest developments on this sector are presented in the following paper.
