Innovative farming and new crop ideas

Tobacco producers in Norfolk, Oxford, Brant and Elgin counties can be forgiven if they have grown tired and leery of words like "diversified" and "innovative," or terms such as "thinking outside of the box." It's hard to be optimistic or enthusiasticabout a new crop idea when you have seen so many unique agricultural enterprises fail or never actually make it off the ground. Jim Todd, transition crop specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), promises his new crop ideas are not "pie in the sky" or beyond reach.
