When it comes to fungicide use in 2013, there's the new, the almost new and then there's the tried and true.In the tried and true category there are a number of old reliable fungicides that continue to provide reliable treatment into 2013.Jeff Miller of Miller Research in Rupert, Idaho, said that Mancozeb continues to be a popular seed treatment for fusarium dry rot."Mancozeb is a very good general seed treatment," Miller said."It's very good for fusarium dry rot but it doesn't manage rhizoctonia very well. We recommend that growers use a mancozeb base seed treatment to manage fusarium dry rot."To manage rhizoctonia Miller recommends one of several Maxim formulations from Syngenta or MonCoat MZ from Gowan.Miller said that growers have three options: treat their seed,furrow at planting or do both. Their decision is based on cost as well as how much of a problem rhizoctonia poses.
