The action of oxygen-blast pulsations, with complete combustion of the waste gases, on the processes in the steel-smelting bath is described. Scope for reducing the energy consumption in oxygen converters is identified, and special lances for that purpose are designed. It is possible, in principle, to regulate the converter by process by means of a pulsating oxygen blast that has a regular amplitude-frequency characteristic, with complete combustion of the waste gases. This approach may be incorporated in the design of multipurpose oxygen lances.
