摘要

Quenching is a form of heat treatment used to increase the hardness and strength of metal components. It involves many physical phenomena that occur simultaneously in the quenched metal and in the cooling liquid [1]. The properties of cooling fluids should include the following: they should not produce extreme deformation; they should be characterized by operational strength and resistance to thermal decomposition and oxidation; they should not react with the surface of the quenched components and the tanks in which they are held; they should be satisfactory in terms of toxicity, inflammability, and environmental impact (within and beyond the workplace); any residues they should form on the surface of the quenched component should be easily removable by washing or steaming; and their cost per unit output should be low [2].
