Around the world and in most countries within the Commonwealth of Independent States, energy and resource conservation is a pressing problem today. The metallurgical industry is a major consumer of electric power, and consequently resource- and energy-conserving ladle treatment of steel is of great interest [1, 2J. Research suggests that efficient degassing of liquid metal by inert-gas injection depends not on the intensity of injection but on the number of gas bubbles introduced in the melt per unit time.
