Prospects for Russian Production of Strip Employed in Large-Diameter Electrowelded Pipe

The modernization of the 5000 mill at OAO Severstal' to produce strip for the manufacture of large-diameter electrowelded pipe with a single seam is described. Analysis of the prospective demand for large-diameter electrowelded pipe indicates that the two existing 5000 mills are sufficient to meet Russia's need for single-seam pipe of diameter 1220 and 1420 mm; for smaller-diameter pipe, a mill with a shorter barrel length must be constructed.
