摘要

Existing roller-mill furnaces in Russian metallurgical plants are entirely suited to the introduction of energy-and resource-conserving heating technologies, with reduction in fuel consumption and metal wastage to the best international standards. This entails dispensing with forced heating of the metal, using moderate thermal conditions, and reducing the furnace temperature and the temperature of the departing combustion products, even at the expense of some loss in productivity. Excellent economic performance of Russian furnaces may be achieved without the need for radical updating of the furnace stock or the use of special equipment. Optimal temperature conditions may be attained in all furnace types currently in operation. The most important reconstructive measures relate to improvement in furnace control, the introduction of automatic control systems with simulation of the furnace's thermal operation, and reduction in heat losses by improving the lining and the sealing of the working space. These measures do not call for extreme capital expenditures.
