At OAO Magnitogorskii Metallurgicheskii Kombinat (MMK), metal is extracted from the steel-smelting slags in a slag-processing unit of capacity 2.4 Mtn/yr. This unit includes five stages of screening and three stages of dry magnetic separation. Magnetic products are obtained in the fractions 0-10, 10-90, 90-350 (or 10-50 and 50-350), and >350 mm; nonmagnetic products are obtained in the fractions 0-10, 10-90 (or 10-50), 10-40, 40-350, and 0-350 mm. These magnetic products, characterized by high iron content (by mass) and high basicity, are used in sintering, in blast-furnace processes, and in steel smelting, as iron-bearing and fluxing additives.
