Measuring the Changes of the US Influence in Global Standards-Setting

Because standards govern the development, manufacturing, supply, and management of most goods and services, those nations who lead the development of standards are rule-makers and may gain a competitive edge in global competition. However, there are few studies on how we can assess the influence of nations in global standard-setting leadership. Not surprisingly, the effectiveness of the US in this context has been continuously discussed, as in the US Department of Commerce (DOC) report in 1965 and the US Congressional Office of Technology and Assessment (OTA) report in 1992.
