摘要

Concrete and steel typically form weak bonds when steel reinforcement is used in concrete. A coupling layer fused to the surface of the steel should be capable of improving the ability of the steel to adhere to the surrounding concrete. Pull-out tests done on smooth steel rods that had been coated with porcelain enamel and also by enamel that was altered by the addition of mineral additives indicate that the mineral additives can increase the force require to extract the rods from a Portland cement mortar embedment. Small increases in maximum pull-out force occurred with enameled test rods abraded with Portland cement. An increase in maximum pullout force that amounted to three times that obtained with bare steel was observed when Portland cement was fused onto the enameled steel. Porcelain enamel is recognized as an excellent method of protecting steel from corrosion. Specially formulated porcelain enamel may serve the dual purpose of protecting the steel reinforcement from concrete and improving the bond of the steel to surrounding concrete.
