Is there a tradeoff between speed and technical soundness in the development of software standards? slower, would the resulting standards be better with fewer defects? On the other hand, if the process were slower, wouldn't that mean that critical market opportunities would be missed?There may be a perceived tradeoff between speed and technical soundness of complex software standards, but this tradeoff may well be an empty argument. There may simply be no correlation between speed and technical soundness. The market shelf life of a software standard tends to be more dependent upon the rapid innovation of Information Technology (IT) than its development speed. The reality is that complex software systems, and complex software standards, will contain ambiguities and defects. In the idiom of software, the standards are "buggy." The reality is that the technical soundness of complex software standards can be elusive, no matter how much time and effort is expended in their development. Also, assessing conformity of products and services to complex software standards can be problematical.
