Water Levels

Pacific Northwest growers should have enough water. Below-normal snowpack levels were recorded in important potato growing regions in the Pacific Northwest this winter, but with the exception of the Klamath River basin, it appears most growers in Idaho, Oregon and Washington will make it through the season with sufficient water supplies. Together, the three states produce more than half the nations potato supply. In the upper Snake River basin, which supplies water to spud growers in eastern and southern Idaho, snowpack levels were near all-time lows. But because of plentiful carryover water from last season, most reservoirs in that region will be full when the growing season starts.
