A new generation of multi-platen hydraulic presses in the range of 150 to 1200 kN, specifically designed for the production of hard metal inserts and powder metal parts, is being presented. The concept incorporates essential innovations for small-lot production, typical for inserts, thus meeting the requirements for minimum set-up time and maximum precision to reduce the costs of subsequent grinding. The tool is mounted directly into the press/thus eliminating the normally required die set and making use of the presses precision guiding system. Benefits include a new dimension of precision and reduced set-up time. Compaction in opposite direction, stationary die, precise measuring systems, closed-loop control, maximum rigidity of the press and wear-resistant guide mechanisms, allow parts to be pressed to size with tolerances of only a few thousandths of a mm, without danger of tool fracture. Quick-action tool clamping systems and an interface for automatic tool identification allow extremely quick multi-platen tool change. A new concept of user-friendly machine programming ensures quick and easy operation and optimization in the production of parts, minimizing press operator input. Robotic automation systems allow for automatic removal and deposit of the compacts, quality control, stacking of sintering trays and cleaning of pressing tools.
