The volume of enquiries has increased in the US but, so far, this has not been reflected in the number of orders. The rising nickel price suggests higher stainless steel transaction values in the near future but purchasers have not yet been tempted to make their move. Most stockists continue to rely on the mill depots and master distributors to supply their needs at short notice. It is only these firms, who are prepared to hold inventory, that are maintaining reasonable sales tonnages. Some nuclear and other energy projects have been delayed - possibly as buyers waited to see how low stainless selling figures would fall.
