Demand for hot rolled plate in the United States has been sustained by a number of large projects, both at home and overseas. European producer, Industeel, continues to sell very aggressively in the US market. NSSC's works at Kashima was damaged by the recent earthquake in Japan but operations have restarted and are expected to be fully restored by the end of July. Domestic consumption by the construction sector in South Korea is very poor. The country's biggest producer, Posco, will hope to benefit from the reduced supply and increased requirements from rebuilding following the natural disasters in Japan.
