Although mill inventories remain high, there are signs that the US market is recovering. Despite poor sales, service centre stocks are now better balanced. OEM's are starting to buy again. Producers have returned to their traditional negotiating methodology of agreeing basis values plus published alloy surcharges. Basis figures for grade 304 are higher this month by 290 US dollars per tonne but this improvement has been more than offset by a 588 US dollars per tonne fall in the alloy surcharge. There is less pressure from imports.
