Like most metals and like oil and gas, titanium is in over-supply. This is reflected in the weak price, which at 3.7B USD/kg (1), has sunk almost to the level that it reached during the 2008-9 financial crisis. Mining companies have been bearing the brunt of this. For example, in September 2015 Rio Tinto announced lay-offs of workers at its iron and titanium mine in Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec, Canada.
