Business activity in the US continues to be subdued and there is no indication of any improvement in the near term. Basis prices are coming under negative pressure. NAS has recalibrated its surcharge formula for stainless bars - separating them from other long products. The new figures will fall in step with other mills' bar extras. Posco Specialty Steels, South Korea's major stainless steel long products maker, has reduced the prices for its austenitic bars by KRW100,000 per tonne for April, despite identifying sufficient demand to significantly lift its output.
