Producers and master distributors in the US continue to try to offload material, often at very low negotiated prices. Import offers from the Far East are not competitive with current domestic values. Market conditions are not expected to improve during the first half of 2009. Major Japanese producer, Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless, has cut production by between 30 and 50 percent, dependent on mill and product.
