Purchasing activity levels and the number of enquiries have increased, in the United States. Business should pick up further as the weather improves. Restocking has helped to push mill delivery dates out to June. All the leading domestic producers have announced a 2 percent cut in discounts, i.e. a hike in basis prices, for 200 series, 300 series and 430 grade coils, effective for deliveries from the beginning of April. Japan's leading stainless steel producer, NSSC, lifted its basis price for austenitic coils by RMB5,000 per tonne, for March, but reduced its alloy surcharge by the same amount, leaving transaction figures unaltered.
