MEPS - European Average Hot Rolled Coil and Hot Rolled Plate, grade 316, transaction prices increased by ?31 per tonne and ?23 per tonne, respectively, in March. These rises were mainly due to alloy surcharge movements, although coil basis values increased slightly in southern Europe, bringing them more in line with the rest of the continent. There are some encouraging economic signs in Europe, suggesting an upturn in industrial activity, which would increase the demand for stainless steel.
