Falconbridge is planning to develop a new nickel mine at a closed operation in western Ontario. On-going exploration has identified resources of 13.4 million tonnes of 1.8 percent nickel. Ore production is expected to start towards the end of 2009. Sidenor recently started up stainless melting operations at its facility in Basauri, northern Spain. Annual output is expected to reach 50,000 tonnes. The company has three plants in Spain with a combined long products capacity of 700,000 tonnes.
