In 1909 Edouard Benedictus, a set and costume designer for a French Theatre, patented Triple X. A laminate made from two glass sheets bound to an inner layer of clear plastic. Today, every car, truck and bus built in the United States has a windshield of laminated safety glass. Another example that we can't prejudge the source of the breakthroughs for glass. Today architectural glass stands beside the safety windshield as a fine example of combining polymers with glass to achieve safe applications that are also beautiful. Can you imagine a major city sky line today with out Glass covering the buildings exterior. Reflecting the clouds and sky in varying colors from clear to shades of blue to copper or even black.
