BlueScope to build 400,000t/y coating plant and buy Butler

AUSTRALIA'S BlueScope Steel this week announced it will build a 280m Australia dollars (224m US dollars) mill in China and acquire Butler Manufacturing Company, a pre-engineered steel building systems company headquartered in Missouri, US, for 260m Australia dollars. The new plant, a flat steel coating and painting mill at Suzhou Industrial Park, 80km west of Shanghai, in eastern China's Jiangsu province, will be 100 percent owned by BlueScope. Construction at the 50-hectare site is due to end by mid-2006, around the end of Australia's 2005/6 financial year, and will provide employment for around 300 people. Its metallic coating capacity will be 250,000t/y, and the paint line's 150,000t/y.
