Imports of cold rolled flat products into China/Hong Kong fell to 280,685 tonnes in the third quarter of last year, 8.6 percent down on the previous quarter, bringing imports for the first nine months of 2006 to 892,420 tonnes, a decline of 15.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Imports of hot rolled flat in the third quarter fell to 354,724 tonnes, down almost 12 percent compared to the previous quarter. Cumulative imports of hot rolled for the first nine months of 2006 were running 30.7 percent down on the same period of 2005 at 1,122,947 tonnes.
