Solid freeform fabrication (SFF) of a novel telescoping ceramic actuator via laminated object manufacturing (LOM) was undertaken using a commercially available machine. Modification of the LOM process was necessary to build the ceramic actuator using green lead zirconate titanate (PZT) tapes. A thorough understanding of the controlling process parameters such as lamination, laser cutting, and decubing led to fabrication of a robust actuator.
