Report of the Second Meeting of SAARC Standing Group

摘要

The Second Meeting of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Standing Group on Standards, Quality Control and Measurement was held in New Delhi from 4-6 Feb 2002. Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka participated in this meeting besides India.The Meeting was inaugurated by Shri P. Rath, Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs. In his keynote address, Shri Rath pointed out that the group had two challenges to meet; firstly, determining how standards within the region do not impede trade and, secondly, how standard within the region need to be raised so as to ensure that access to global markets are not denied on technical grounds. He also drew attention to the need for the Standing Group to pay special consideration to the concerns and requirements of the Least Developed Countries.
