A sewing machine is one of the most common gadgets to be found in almost all households across India. Because of its widespread use, it is necessary to ensure that the household sewing machines are designed and produced to high quality requirements so as to prevent frequent breakdowns and or poor performance. With this in view, the Bureau of Indian Standards has published a series of standards specifying the quality requirements of the various components, performance, test methods etc, for household sewing machines.
